The focus of Analytic Geometry on the coordinate plane is organized into 6 critical areas. Transformations on the coordinate plane provide opportunities for the formal study of congruence and similarity. The study of similarity leads to an understanding of right triangle trigonometry and connects to quadratics through Pythagorean relationships. The study of circles uses similarity and congruence to develop basic theorems relating circles and lines. The need for extending the set of rational numbers arises and real and complex numbers are introduced so that all quadratic equations can be solved. Quadratic expressions, equations, and functions are developed, comparing their characteristics and behavior to those of linear and exponential relationships from Coordinate Algebra. Circles return with their quadratic algebraic representations on the coordinate plane. The link between probability and data is explored through conditional probability.

The DeKalb County School District believes that the most important assessment of student learning shall be conducted by the teachers as they observe and evaluate students in the context of ongoing classroom instruction. A variety of approaches, methodologies, and resources shall be used to deliver educational services and to maximize each student’s opportunity to succeed. *English Learners (ELs) must not receive numerical or letter grades for the core content areas in elementary and middle school during their first year of language development. A grade of CS or CU must be assigned. This rule may be extended beyond the first year with approval from the EL Studies Program. English Learners must receive a grade for ESOL courses.
~Elementary schools will utilize P (pass) and F (fail) in Health/Physical Education, Music, World Languages, Visual Arts and Performing Arts.
DISTRICT EXPECTATIONS FOR SUCCESS
Semester progress reports shall be issued four and a half, nine and thirteen and a half weeks into each semester. The progress of students shall be evaluated frequently, and plans shall be generated to remediate deficiencies as they are discovered. Plans shall include appropriate interventions designed to meet the needs of the students. See Board Policy IH.
Students will not engage in an act of academic dishonesty including, but not limited to, cheating, providing false information, falsifying school records, forging signatures, or using an unauthorized computer user ID or password. See the Code of Student Conduct - Student Rights and Responsibilities and Character Development Handbook.
Homework assignments should be meaningful and should be an application or adaptation of a classroom experience. Homework is always an extension of the teaching/learning experience. It should be considered the possession of the student and should be collected, evaluated and returned to the students. See Board Policy IHB.
DUE TO ABSENCES
When a student is absent because of a legal reason as defined by Georgia law or when the absence is apparently beyond the control of the student, the student shall be given an opportunity to earn grade(s) for those days absent. Make-up work must be completed within the designated time allotted. See Board Policy IHEA.
SCHOOL EXPECTATIONS FOR SUCCESS
- Students must have reliable and daily access to the online learning system Microsoft Teams.
- All instruction and assignments will be provided and submitted, respectively, online through Microsoft Teams, unless indicated otherwise.
- Students must actively participate in the course by providing input during live instruction sessions and discussions, completing the handouts in the Class Notebook of Microsoft Teams, and collaborating with peers on group assignments.
- Weekly IXL assignments must be submitted by Sunday at 11:59pm. Students must earn an 80% or higher.
- Any missing work will be assigned “missing” or “M” in Infinite Campus, which is equivalent to a zero.
- Cheating, of any nature, will result in a zero for ALL students involved. The grade will remain a zero. Make-up assignments are not provided in cases of cheating.
Virtual/Online Learning Protocol & Policies
- Students will login and check for updates and notifications in the class course in Microsoft Teams EVERYDAY.
- Students will log in with their s number and DeKalb password.
- Students will be responsible for monitoring and submitting online assignments by the given due date.
- Students will attend weekly live instruction sessions using the video conferencing tool in Microsoft Teams during the following allotted times. Note: Attendance will be taken.
- 1st Period: 9:45am – 10:30am
- 2nd Period: 10:40am – 11:25am
- 3rd Period: 11:35am – 12:20pm
- 4th Period: 1:05pm – 1:50pm
- Students will be expected to dress appropriately and use appropriate language when engaged in any classroom communication, spoken and written.
- Students will be expected to practice proper etiquette in online interactions with their teacher and peers.
- Students must immediately contact the teacher in the case of technical difficulties, scheduling conflicts, or personal emergencies.
